The Crucible, the first DLC for Darksiders 3 is now available for purchase at $6.99 USD.

This DLC includes a wave-based challenge mode that tasks the player with surviving, "101 Waves of grueling combat, fit only for the toughest and most steadfast of warriors." There are also some new armor sets, enchantments, and rare crafting materials for weapons and enhancements.

A legendary challenge whispered with reverence across the universe. Not even the Creator could have envisioned such glorious spectacle as that which is found in this fabled arena.

These new items for Darksiders 3 will come in-game from Targon, the Crucible Overseer. Targon is the brother of Kargon from Darksiders 2 who was the master of The Crucible in that game.

The Crucible was part of a leak by those perusing through Darksiders 3's text files. The Crucible was reported to be the first with a second coming sometime after called Keepers of the Void.

Darksiders 3 first released in late November 2018 and has already sold enough to recoup its investment for THQ Nordic, who have made a name by buying up old THQ assets. Unfortunately the game itself is mediocre, with our reviewer noting, "While I have long loved this series, the third entry is an underwhelming, buggy mess that doesn’t stand anywhere close to the greatness that was found in the first two installments. Deep down, I still want Gunfire Games and THQ Nordic to give this franchise one more shot, but if a subsequent entry were to once again turn out as Darksiders 3 has, I’d just prefer if this now just be the series’ final breath." Despite that disappointment you can look forward to the original Darksiders, or well, the Warmastered Edition, coming to Nintendo Switch this April. Meanwhile we will keep waiting to see which of the 77 games THQ Nordic has in development will release this year.
