As you may recall, Dauntless is an upcoming free-to-play co-op action RPG from Phoenix Labs announced during The Game Awards. Today, the developer released some new pre-alpha combat footage of the pc exclusive.

The game still hasn't received a great deal of information, but the new one minute and 13 seconds of raw gameplay footage shows off one of the game's ferocious behemoths that you have to hunt because they are threatening your survival.  The combat as you can see in the video is a bit slower than perhaps you would expect, and certainly more methodical. Rather than a more arcadey, hack and slash combat, it appears the devs are going for combat that is a bit more grounded, and that requires you to deploy rolls and dodges similar to a Dark Souls game. The footage also showcases a few of games different weapons, and seeming that forging powerful weapons is at the core of the game, this isn't a huge surprise that some emphasis is being placed on weapon variety.

We also know Phoenix Labs is a team of developers comprised of industry veterans from studios including BioWare, Riot Games, Capcom and Blizzard, so expect to see some influences drawn from those studios as the game develops.

Dauntless is expected to release for PC sometime in 2017. Below, you can check out the new footage:
