DayZ Will Not See a Retail Release

ArmA II’s zombie apocalypse survival mod, DayZ, was recently announced to have a standalone version in development. Many questions have circulated since this announcement, one of the more prominent of which is whether or not the game will be released for consoles.

Dean Hall, the man leading the standalone DayZ project, said in an interview with VG247              that releasing the game on a retail level did not seem all that practical to him, “we don’t see our product at retail. We don’t need money. So then we don’t need marketing. People don’t want to see ‘DayZ: brought to you by x-brand.’ These publishers are in danger of being irrelevant, but at the same time they can provide a lot of specialist assistance, or technology assistance.”

The standalone version of DayZ is set to be released sometime this year.
