After first launching all the way back in 2011, Daybreak Games today announced that it is bringing the MMO DC Universe Online to the Nintendo Switch in just a few months.

As revealed via CBR, DC Universe Online is set to make its debut on a Nintendo platform for the first time ever when it comes to Switch this summer. Much like its counterparts on other platforms, DCUO will be free-to-play and you won't need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to get in on the action. Sadly though, it won't support crossplay with the game on other platforms.

"Bringing the game to the Switch was something that's very close to my heart," said Daybreak's executive producer Leah Bowers of the announcement. "Nintendo was the first console I really connected with; and yet, I associated the brand with first party or platform games. But when the Switch came out, it blew my mind and highlighted the possibilities that were there."

Personally, I've never played DCUO but I've always wanted to jump in and give it a shot. I imagine this feeling will be shared amongst many others as well meaning that this release has the chance to really breathe new life into DC Universe Online. And with it being a free-to-play game, there's no harm in downloading it to your own Switch and seeing if you like it or not. This move makes a lot of sense and I hope it bodes well for Daybreak.

As of this writing, DC Universe Online doesn't have a specific release date for the Switch, with the window for launch simply being this summer. Until we hear more, you can check out the game's reveal trailer for Switch down below.
