Dead Island 2 is riddled with zombies, obviously. Luckily, you are riddled with ways to dispose of them. In addition to the many options of weapons, you also have a lot of mod choices for said weapons. These mods will allow you to tweak ranged and melee weapons alike to be more powerful and more to your liking. While some mods are better than others, what matters most of all is that you have fun playing the game. Everyone starts off somewhere, so be sure to try out as many of the mods as you can to find which ones truly resonate with you and will give you the best experience for your personal journey playing Dead Island 2.

You may be asking yourself which mods should take priority over others and what makes them shine as much as they do, and while trying them all out yourself may be a great way to discover this, here are some you might want to focus on the most. There are also plenty of Perks to look into to create a very wide variety of options at your disposal, and they are worth looking into alongside the mods featured in Dead Island 2.

6 Impactor

Dead Island 2 Impactor Mod

At the bottom of this list is the Impactor Mod, this mod focuses on pure physical damage rather than one of the several elemental options provided to the players. They do however still provide a status effect, making any weapon significantly better with it, rather than without it. The status effect in question is Traumatize. A traumatized zombie will not be able to attack or move around, however, damaging the zombie will remove the effect, making it less than ideal if you want to keep damaging the zombie with a weapon designed to damage said zombie.

Out of all the mods you will find in the game, this is the one you might want to use earlier on and save your other mods for more useful weapons you’ll be coming across later in the game. Dougie in Ocean Avenue has your back if you’re looking to buy a rare Impactor mod to put on your guns, and they can be found in Ocean Avenue. On the other hand, you could head on over to Santa Monica and pick up a rare melee one instead that is just sitting on a Workbench.

5 Puncturer

Dead Island 2 Puncturer Mod

This mod is a great way to apply the bleeding status effect to your many targets. With Puncturer mods in your weapons, you’ll be giving all of your enemies damage over time effects that can see them dropping health faster and clearing out groups of enemies before any of them can get close.

Both Puncturer and Impactor mods don’t shine as much as the other mods on this list, making them great early on when you want to jack up a weapon, but you’ll quickly forget about them. If you want to get your hands on a rare melee Puncturer mod, there is one located on a Workbench in Venice Beach, and a ranged one can be purchased from Dougie in Ocean Avenue.

4 Mutilator

Dead Island 2 Mutilator Mod

Having a mutilator mod on a melee weapon is a great choice, it will increase the damage you set out to do, as well as apply the weakened status effect to the zombies that you are hitting with it. Weakened zombies will take more damage from all physical attacks, so not only will it increase damage, it will increase the damage further the more you keep using it on its target.

This will allow you to chop, bash and hack your way through. It may be better than the previous two entries on this list, but it doesn’t have anything extra of its own, such as elemental mods that can also affect the surrounding environment. If you’re looking to use a rare melee mutilator mod in the game, hit up the trader named Kai for one.

3 Cremator

Dead Island 2 Cremator Mod

The cremator mods in Dead Island 2 are of an elemental nature and will focus on providing more damage than normal, with a focus on inflicting fire damage when modded to your weapons. This is a great mod to have ready in locations that have oil and gasoline around, as it can be used to ignite them to coat your zombie enemies in a flaming blaze.

This feature makes it more suited for ranged weapons while the enemy is still near your target. If you are itching to try this mod on a melee weapon, you can get it as a reward for completing “The Giant-Slayer” which will be part of the main storyline, and if ranged weapons is more your forte you’ll want to do the quest called “Cremains Of The Day”.

2 Electrocutor

Dead Island 2 Electrocutor Mod

Like the cremator, this mod is also of an elemental nature, but it does not focus on fire, this one focuses on electricity. This mod will increase your damage output, while also adding shock damage to the equation.

Shock damage will be more effective when your targets are dripping wet, and the locations of Dead Island 2 are full of barrels that can be destroyed to drench zombies to better conduct damage from this mod. If you don't see a water barrel, the Chem Bomb Curveball is just what you need. What puts this above cremator is that it can stun zombies in larger numbers, keeping you at a safer distance.

1 Liquidator

Dead Island 2 Liquidator Mod

This is the last elemental mod option in the game, but it is also the biggest bang you’ll get for your buck. Weapons with this mod will inflict caustic damage, and zombies being hit by it will face the Melting status effect.

When a zombie has this status effect, it will take more damage from shock damage, fire damage, and even caustic damage from the weapon that is causing them to melt. So you can imagine how well this works in co-op. This allows you to just pour the damage onto any and all zombies in your way. If you want this mod on your gun, a rare one can be found and bought from W.O. Rodriguez.
