Well, here's something that could turn out to be quite interesting. Ahead of the PlayStation 5 reveal event later this week, one of the former writers behind games like Dead SpaceBinary Domain, and Shadow of Mordor has teased that a new project from him will be unveiled at the showcase.

Over on Twitter this evening, writer Antony Johnston announced that a game he has been working on from the past few years is set to appear later this week during Sony's PS5 stream. "As some of you know, I’ve been working on a big videogame for almost 2 years now," Johnston said. He then continued on by teasing, "In totally unrelated news, you should all watch the PS5 launch event on Thursday."

Johnston was then immediately accosted by fans with questions about just what this project could be. While Johnston obviously wouldn't be willing to spill the beans, he did say that the game sees you playing as "a character having a really bad time."

Of course, the tease from Johnston will likely draw many to think that a new Dead Space game could be what is being teased here. While Johnston has worked on a variety of games over the years, Dead Space is by far the property that the writer worked on the most. Not only did he contribute to the original game in the series, but Johnston also worked on Dead Space: Extraction and Dead Space Ignition. His tease of the game centering around a character having a bad time definitely lines up with the beloved horror-themed sci-fi franchise, too.

In all likelihood, though, this project isn't related to Dead Space at all. Even though this conjecture could definitely be wrong, a rebirth of the Dead Space franchise would seem more likely to show up at Electronic Arts' upcoming EA Play event rather than Sony's PS5 presentation. As such, I wouldn't get your hopes up too high just yet. Whatever this game is that's being teased seems more likely to belong to another franchise entirely. That said, it would be fantastic to be proven wrong.

Regardless, it's curious to see that Johnston is returning to the realm of video games after a few years away from the medium. We should get a good look at this new game that he's working on a few days from now on Thursday, June 11 beginning at 4:00pm EST/1:00pm PST.
