In the latest episode of his Brain Structure podcast, Hideo Kojima revealed that he would have had to "throw out the scenes" he'd written if Elle Fanning had rejected his offer to star in Death Stranding 2, as "she plays a major role."

According to Kojima, he created the character specifically for Fanning, before he'd even offered her the role. He was worried about the two-time Golden Globe nominee rejecting his offer. "I really can’t share much, but she’s a very, very important character," Kojima explained. "And yes, I created the character with Elle in mind. So I was worried about her saying no to the offer."

Death Stranding 2 was officially revealed a few months ago during The Game Awards 2022, but prior to the announcement, Kojima himself revealed that he would be working with Elle Fanning on an upcoming project, along with Shioli Kutsuna. Not to mention that Norman Reedus and Lea Seydoux will be reprising their roles.

Unfortunately, the official announcement trailer for Death Stranding 2 didn't reveal Elle Fanning's in-game character, though it did feature an unknown masked character with blonde hair. Kojima praised Fanning on the podcast, calling her talented and charming. Kojima revealed he changed some of his previously written scripts after meeting the actress. "I changed a lot, I even added in new scenes." He also spoke about wanting talent like Fanning to have creative input into their characters.

Death Stranding 2 doesn't have a release date yet, but it will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive. There is no word on a potential PC version of the game. This was also the case for the original until Kojima revealed that the PC version would arrive at a later date.
