Death Stranding might be releasing both on PlayStation 4 and on Sony's new console, which technically isn't confirmed as "PlayStation 5" yet, but should definitely be named such.

Wired reported today that a secret press conference was recently held at Sony's headquarters in California. During the conference, PlayStation 4's Lead Architect Mark Cerny, along with a few more spokespersons, revealed new hardware details regarding Sony's next-generation console and how the generation shift would play out. It was stated that a gentle generational transition awaits us, with multiple games for the new console being available on PlayStation 4 as well.

When asked about Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding, and if it'll release on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, a spokesperson in the room answered that the game would be released for PS4. However, Wired reported that Mark Cerny's uncanny pause and smile at the time of the question might indicate Death Stranding will be coming to PS5 as well.

In the latest development update regarding Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima stated that the game is taking slightly more time than what he planned. Taking this into account, a PS5 release definitely doesn't feel unlikely. Kojima stated that he is currently playing through Death Stranding controller in hand, looking at what could be improved in terms of screenplay and direction especially.

Death Stranding still has no release date at this point, but the game's development is going smoothly. Since the start of 2019, many developers, personalities and film directors reported they've seen exclusive footage of the game and how incredible it looks.
