Does Deathloop have Denuvo?

Back last year it was revealed that Deathloop will be featuring Denuvo. It was stated on the game’s store page that it “Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo Anti-tamper.” Back then, it did cause a bit of controversy, because of the tech’s history.

Denuvo has quite a tampered image in the gaming community, with many reports stating that it has an adverse effect on the game’s performance. What’s surprising is the fact that one of Arkane’s critically acclaimed titles, Prey, had Denuvo itself but it was removed because it had quite a significant impact on the game’s performance. Keeping that in perspective, Arkane adding Denuvo to Deathloop made little sense.

Is Denuvo causing performance issues?

It seems like the internet is all set for another round of debate against Denuvo, as history is likely repeating itself again. If early reviews are to be believed, Deathloop is indeed facing some performance issues due to the presence of Denuvo. While the reviews on Steam are already bombarded about the stuttering issues, one great example is GmanLives‘ review.

He states that he is facing performance issues with even a 3080 TI and 64GB RAM, which is way above the recommended system requirements. Considering the fact that he is using the second-best gaming GPU one can get right now, the performance issues are quite strange. He attributes them to the presence of Denuvo, and it does make a lot of sense. Whether Deathloop gets the same treatment as Prey remains to be seen.
