Destiny 2 Does Not Mean Destiny 1's Support Is Ending Anytime Soon Says Bungie

It's not without a tear for the original that we look forward to Destiny 2. However, Bungie doesn't plan on closing the doors on its first epic installment just yet.

After this week’s official announcement of Destiny 2, we now know quite a bit more about what the sequel will mean for the future of the franchise, but where does that leave the original Destiny? Although we should look to the future, Destiny remains a game that many people have invested a great deal of time and money into. With the revelation that progress and gear won’t be transferring to the new title, there is some uncertainty amongst the dedicated fans who aren’t quite ready to leave this installment behind. It seems that’s not lost on Bungie.

Recently, Destiny‘s final update, Age of Triumph, was released. Although it has some semblance of finality to it, Community Manager David “DeeJ” Dague says “Destiny 1 is still a game that will be there for players.”

In speaking with GamesRadar, Dague reassured players that Bungie is “planned to support [Destiny] for the foreseeable future,” and that although this newest update is intended to be a ‘victory lap’ for players to mentally prepare for the new game, Bungie is “by no means turning the lights off on Destiny 1.”

In Dague’s mind, Destiny still has a place in gamers’ libraries even if a shinier version is on the horizon.

“If players decide, as they move on to new worlds, to experience new adventures and be told new stories in those spaces, if they decide they want to revisit the things that they did in Destiny 1, the game will still be there for them. And, for someone who might join the adventure in progress, and they might want to go back to the beginning and discover how it all started? Those origin stories will be waiting for them.”
