Before Blizzard's keynote at Blizzcon 2018 Bungie announced that Destiny 2 would be free for anyone to download and own until November 18 on PC through Battle.net.

Bungie and Activision have announced that the full Destiny 2 base game for PC is now a free gift for all new players on Blizzard Battle.net. For the first two weeks of November, anyone who does not already own the PC game will have the opportunity to claim it as a gift through their Battle.net account.

Destiny 2 will be free to claim and download from November 2–18, 2018. New Battle.net accounts created after 11:00 a.m. PDT on November 2, 2018, will need to enable Blizzard SMS Protect before claiming their free copy. Destiny 2 PC is redeemable from the Battle.net gift page.

This free version does not include the recent expansion Forsaken, though purchasing Forsaken will now also include the previous expansions Curse of Osiris and Warmind. Destiny 2 also went free to own as part of a PlayStation Plus subscription in September 2018. Bungie's shooter also beat out Marvel's Spider-Man as most downloaded game in September, thanks to the free version as well as the launch of Forsaken, which reviewed very well with our own Noah Buttner.
