Destiny Had Over 4 Million Players Shooting Aliens and Each Other During its Beta

The numbers are in and it turns out that Destiny had a LOT of people play its beta. Activision made a statement today which tells us that 4,638,937 unique players participated in the space faring FPS/MMO hybrid. This makes Destiny‘s beta the biggest and most successful of this console generation.

The beta kicked started on the PlayStation 3 and 4 on July 17, came to the Xbox 360 and Xbox One on July 22 and concluded on the 27th. The numbers given today reflects players from all of these consoles.

This news isn’t surprising at all. Destiny‘s beta beat out Titanfall‘s (over 2 million players on the PC and Xbox One) because it was spread out over more consoles. It’s also a more universal type of game since it is both an MMO and a Shooter. On my end, nearly everyone on my friends list on PSN was playing it and I myself played it for hours on end with friends.

If this is any sign of how the actual game will do when it’s released on September 9th then Destiny will easily be one of the most successful games of the fall.
