Destiny Runs Away With 500 Million Dollars in its First Day of Sales

September 10, 2014

Activision just announced with a press release that Destiny achieved a 500 million dollars sell-in  (meaning, shipped to retailers) during its first day on the shelves.

The game, which launched with over 11,000 midnight openings in 178 countries, is also the best selling game for digital downloads at day one in gaming’s history, and according to Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg, the most successful release of a new IP of all time.

Of course Destiny is also pretty much on track to become Activision’s next billion dollar-selling franchise…

…and I guess no one is surprised, at all.

RPGs (of any nationality) and MMORPGs are his daily bread, but he enjoys almost every other genre, prominently racing simulators, action and sandbox games. He is also one of the few surviving fans of the flight simulator genre on Earth.
