Since its launch in 2018, Quantic Dreams' Detroit: Become Human has sold five million copies. This news comes over a month after it launched on Steam.

In addition to the news on reaching five million units sold, Quantic Dream announced Detroit: Community Play, a Twitch extension that lets streamers and their viewers make in-game decisions together. In a press release announcing the news, it's been confirmed that roughly 500 streamers have used the feature, leading to 1.5 million votes cast to date.

“I could immerse myself in streaming and connect with my audience much better thanks to the Community Play Twitch extension," said Korean streamer Kumikomii in the press release.  "It was refreshing to play while the audience led me to whole new situations and scenario branches that I would not have discovered playing on my own. The overlay interface fits so well with Detroit’s art direction that some of my viewers thought it was part of the game itself. I had so much fun that I played three more days until reaching the end of the game.“

Detroit: Become Human released in 2018 on the PlayStation 4. The seeds for the game had been planted in 2012 with the release of Kara, a seven-minute tech demo featuring Kara, an AI that became a main character in Detroit. Prior to its release, Quantic Dream developed 2013's Beyond Two Souls and 2010's Heavy Rain on the PS3. Earlier this year, Quantic Dream teased that there will be big announcements this year. Towards the end of May, Steam pages for Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human were spotted on Steam.

“Launching Detroit: Become Human on Steam has been a delightful experience for us,” said Guillaume de Fondaumière, Co-CEO and Head of Publishing at Quantic Dream in the press release. “The response we’re seeing has been incredibly positive, in particular in Asian markets. We are also thrilled by the response garnered by the concomitant release of our Community Play extension for streamers and viewers on Twitch, which elevated a fundamentally single player game into a social experience.”

Detroit: Become Human is available now on PlayStation 4 and PC.
