During the Devolver Digital E3 Direct, the indie publisher showcased their new title Carrion - a horror game that twists the basic premise -  from developer Phobia Game Studio. Usually, in horror titles, we are the ones being hunted by some terrifying entity but this time you assume the role of an amorphous creature of unknown origin as you prey and consume those that imprisoned you to spread fear and panic throughout the facility. As you travel further through the game on your path to retribution, you gain mass and grow larger - presumably by absorbing other people - tasty.

You, the player, sneak through air vents and corridors while growing stronger at every turn and tearing down the prison on route. The animation looks excellent with its Metroidvania genre pixel art and the idea of a unique turn of events in the role reversal system sounds fascinating. Carrion is the second game from the indie team at Phobia Game Studio who have previously worked on Butcher, the gruesome 2D twin-stick shooter and it looks as though the gore and bloodshed are set to continue with Carrion, too.

Unfortunately, no release date was given as yet other than you should expect to see it hit PC and consoles next year but, you can add Carrion to your wishlist over on the title's Steam Page. It does state on Steam that the game will launch June 2, 2020, but until we hear an official date straight from the horse's mouth, I wouldn't rely on it too much right now.
