All Versions of Diablo 4 Will Not Be Able to Be Played Offline
If you were looking forward to playing Diablo 4 offline on one of your consoles, I have some bad news for you.
During BlizzCon 2019 just a few days ago, Blizzard announced some gargantuan games such as Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2. While fans might be excited about the new entries, I might have some news that will disappoint some. It looks like Diablo 4 will not be able to be played offline and will only feature an online mode.
Per GameSpot, during a panel at Blizzcon, Angela Del Priore addressed a question about whether or not the game would support a full offline mode.
Del Priore responded and stated: “We are not going to support an offline mode. But as I said before, nothing in Diablo 4 is going to require partying up. You can play solo and dungeons are private. Campaign quest areas will [also] remain private.”
While this might not be a surprise to PC players since Diablo 3 required an internet connection at all times since its launch, console players might be a little disappointed. Diablo 3 had the ability to play offline on the console versions of the game.
Some might have hoped just for some confusion on the question, however, GameSpot followed up with a Blizzard representative and they confirmed that the new entry to the Diablo franchise will be online-only across all versions of the game, including PS4 and Xbox One.
While the video game industry has rapidly evolved into something that always wants to be connected, it is a bit sad to see this news. What does this mean if they inevitably port the game to the Switch? Basically you would always need to be playing the game docked at home or find a Wifi connection to bum off of when you are on the go. Plus, there are still areas across the globe that do not have the best access to the internet. With the negative reaction Blizzard has received on this announcement, I wonder if they will try to make some tweaks to their decision before the game releases.
