Celebrate Diablo III's anniversary with the Darkening of Tristram, an event paying homage to your earliest Diablo memories. It will begin on January 1, 2018 at midnight PST and last until January 30 at the same time.

The Darkening of Tristram will begin as you follow some troublesome and mysterious cultists in Sanctuary through Adventure Mode. You will eventually uncover enough clues to unearth a portal into Tristram's past.

This will all lead to you exploring a familiar looking cathedral filled with enemies and loot from the Diablo series' past. You will also experience this in RetroVision, a filter that will have you reminiscing on Blizzard's previous entries to the demon-filled action role-playing game.

The limited anniversary event will also grant those for completing various activities with exclusive rewards such as transmogrification effects, achievements, portraits, pets, and more.

Diablo III originally released in May of 2012 for PC and later for Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Since it's release, Blizzard has continued its support for the game with multiple events, new classes, and an expansion. In June, Blizzard released the Rise of the Necromancer Pack which added the Necromancer as well as some themed items of the title's newest class.
