At this point, DICE seems to be pretty overwhelmed with projects. The impending release of Battlefield 4 along with all of its future additional content, coupled with the announcements of Star Wars: Battlefront‘s revival and Mirror’s Edge‘s prequel did not bode well for one of DICE’s other acclaimed franchises: Battlefield: Bad Company.
“The Bad Company [team] isn’t forgotten, they are just on a very long vacation,” Battlefield‘s Creative Director, Lars Gustavsson said, “so they are out there, they’re coming back.”
EA is in the midst of reorganizing their rotation of shooters, which was previously characterized by yearly releases of Bad Company, Battlefield, and Medal of Honor. The most recent example of this rotation included Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (2010), Battlefield 3 (2011), and Medal of Honor: Warfighter (2012).
With Medal of Honor out of the rotation and Titanfall nearing release, the new rotation is now comprised of Battlefield 4 (2013), Titanfall (2014), and Star Wars: Battlefront (2015). Following this pattern, this may mean there will likely not be a new Battlefield: Bad Company until 2016 at the earliest. Where does Mirror’s Edge fit in to all of this?
