Digital Foundry Compares Metal Gear Survive Beta on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X
The Metal Gear Survive Beta got a place in the spotlight, and Digital Foundry compared all versions of it: PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One and Xbox One X.
Euorgamer’s Digital Foundry, known for their work comparing performance and presentation of different versions of games, has struck again. With the recent Metal Gear Survive beta wrapped up, they’ve released a video comparing the PS4/PS4 Pro version of the beta with the Xbox One/Xbox One X version.
Before comparing anything, they note that it is a beta, so everything seen in the beta is still a work in progress. As such, they note that load times were upwards of five minutes on the Xbox One, often booting players before the match even began. This is chalked up as the beta doing exactly what it’s meant to — ironing out bugs. The PS4 version loaded in a few seconds, leading Digital Foundry to believe that they’re both in different stages of development.
Breaking standard format due to the beta aspect of the review, the versions are listed best-to-worst performing.
The first place title went to the PS4 Pro, if that surprises anyone. The FOX engine was designed with the PlayStation interface in mind, so it shouldn’t be too shocking. Smooth 60 fps performance in 4K was achieved with almost perfect performance. Say what you will about Konami, but they did design a near-perfect engine for the PS4. Worth noting, the 4K isn’t native, but rather an upscaled 2134 x 1440. This resolution doesn’t fit perfectly in a 16:9 ratio, so some artifacts can be seen on long edges. Despite that, it still solidly holds its first place position.
The other consoles fall into place with Xbox One X taking second, PS4 taking third, and Xbox One taking fourth. The entire breakdown can be seen in the video below.
