In an interesting video launched by PlayStation, Director of Uncharted 4, Neil Druckmann, sits down with Managing Director of Guerrilla Games, Hermen Hulst, to talk about the developer and Horizon Zero Dawn.

In the beginning of the interview, Hulst details how Horizon Zero Dawn was presented to them during an internal project pitch session. He describes another game that they were interested in that was set in a steam punk world closely resembling The Order: 1886. However, they stuck with Horizon Zero Dawn and put the player into a world where they don't want to escape like they would in their previous series, Killzone.

The two exchange stories and ideas of how they the two studios come up with ideas during development. This includes how Naught Dog's Uncharted series first began as a steam punk game and evolved into what it is today.

Additionally, Hulst comments that the character, Aloy, was never considered to be a male. Hulst adds that the studio didn't set out as a goal to "push diversity" in the gaming community, but it turned out well for the game in the end. Similarly, he comments on the need for studios to go out of their way to create "strong female leads". Instead, Guerrilla Games made Aloy "fierce and strong" in the sense that she will fight back, but she is still human and can meet her match.
