Nippon Ichi Software has revealed today a large amount of information screenshots and artwork about Disgaea 3 Return for the PlayStation Vita, an updated, revamped form of beloved tactical RPG Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice. The re-release features many improvements over the original, to provide a more polished and enjoyable experience. The official cover art has also been revealed (you can see it above).

The game still retains many elements from its Playstation 3 incarnation, including the isometric map setup and geo blocks, blocks that can be stacked to create statistical effects on the battlefield. The Magichange feature also remains present, allowing players to transform monsters into weapons for partners to use and unleash strong technical attacks.

The Skill Merging feature (The ability to combine attacks between different characters) will also make a comeback from the PS3 version of the game. The most interesting part, though, is that new combinations will be added with Return, allowing the player to experiment further with mixing and matching skills.

Disgaea 4 characters Desco and Fuka have been added to the game with attacks based on the side-story "The Fuka and Desco Chapters." Desco makes use of her Magichange system to transform herself into an axe.

As mentioned above, all the DLC from the PS3 version of the game will be included by default in the PS Vita version. For example the game will include the four Raspberyl DLC scenarios, featuring the Magichange-enabled teacher and Mao's childhood friend and rival, alongside the  shool comedy-like events that come with her.  The costume change feature for Raspberyl and Sapphire will also be available.

The detention room also makes a return with an expanded range of characters that can be sent to it for their misgivings, giving a chance to improve their relationships.

Disgaea 3 Return will be available in Japan on December 17 and is slated to release in North America and Europe in spring 2012. You can see a large gallery of art and screenshots below.
