Gameloft has announced that the free-to-play racing game Disney Speedstorm has been pushed back from its planned 2022 release to 2023. The delay is reportedly due to the development team requiring more time to meet their expectations. Disney Speedstorm is now targeting a 2023 release for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
Originally planned to launch sometime this year, the hero-based racing has been delayed to next year to ensure the best competitive racing experience at its launch. Disney Speedstorm was first revealed at Nintendo Direct back in February, and it received mostly positive early reactions from players. According to Gameloft, another reason for the delay is that the developer team aims to add new customization options and modes to offer a more immersive racing experience. However, there is not a firm release date for Disney Speedstorm yet.
"We have decided to delay the worldwide release of Disney Speedstorm to meet our expectations and provide players with a more immersive racing experience, customization offerings, game modes, and more", Gameloft explains in their announcement post. "We have been working diligently to craft an amazing racing experience for Disney Speedstorm, capturing our vision of the exciting magic fans enjoy in their favorite Disney and Pixar characters and games."
The vehicular combat game's delay to next year is not a surprise, given that a concrete release date was not even set in stone. Gameloft also teased that Disney Speedstorm will emphasize replayability that will make the player return to competitive racing for years to come, sharing a similar nature with the Asphalt series.
Disney Speedstorm is a free-to-play, action-racing game that features characters and villains from Disney and Pixar worlds, such as Mulan, Mickey Mouse, Sulley, and the Beast. Players will upgrade racer stats and specialize in character skills and techniques that could change the outcome of their race. The game features an online multiplayer mode, allowing players to take on friends or racers from around the globe to climb up the ranks.
Disney Speedstorm will hit the planned platforms sometime in 2023. Developed by the team behind the acclaimed Asphalt series, Gameloft, Disney Speedstorm is now available to wishlist on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
