The critically acclaimed RPG Divinity: Original Sin II - Definitive Edition is now available on the Switch's eShop. The release announcement was made during the Nintendo Direct, and its trailer is featured below.

One interesting detail here is that the game will allow you to share cloud-saves between Steam and Nintendo Switch. If you've already made a lot of progress on your Steam version of the game, it'll be nice to move that data over to your Switch without too much of a hassle. Divinity: Original Sin II is not the first Switch title to offer cross-save support. Civilization VI, for example, already offers cross-platform saves.

Divinity: Original Sin II features great turn-based combat mechanics. You'll also have to deal with a number of environmental factors that will impact your approach to the battle, and the game won't do much to hold your hand. If you like a fantasy setting and a decent challenge, you really ought to give Divinity a shot.

The game is also notable for its well-conceived world and unique characters. One of my favorite characters of all time is Fane. He's a skeleton and a scholar, and he has one of the sharper wits you'll ever find in a video game. He adds an interesting element to the game not just with his personality, though, but also with his gameplay mechanics. He is a wizard, and so his offense is fairly traditional. However, because he is undead, he is harmed by healing spells, and he's healed by poison. Sometimes this affinity for poison can save his life--other times, though, it'll cause you to improvise your approach to battle.

Divinity: Original Sin II - Definitive Edition costs $49.99 on the Switch eShop, and it is currently $26.99 on Steam. You can also play it on PS4 and Xbox One.
