After its release earlier this year, Ubisoft's The Division brought players into a dark, post-apocalyptic New York City with plenty of missions and objectives to complete, with NYC about to grow even darker in a new expansion for the game.

During a livestream from Ubisoft this morning, the company has announced the new "Survival" expansion that will be coming to The Division in the near future, and will offer players a unique new 24-player survival experience that will have players fighting hunger and the cold along with other players.

The paid expansion will integrate a new Survival Mode, where 24 players will compete within a 2-hour max time limit to survive the elements and gather food, water, and sources of heat to fight off the impending cold from a blizzard in NYC. Players will be scattered across New York City with minimal supplies, with the goal being to converge in the center to find anti-viral drugs before starving to death or succumbing to the cold.

The "Survival" expansion for The Division doesn't currently have a specific release date, though Ubisoft has announced that samples of the new content will be available to PC players in the Public Test Server later today to try out before its official release, for players that own the game's Season Pass on that platform. The test version will specifically be available to players of the game on Uplay however, and not yet for Steam.

The Division is available now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
