January 25, 2022

UPDATE: A new trailer has confirmed that Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will be releasing internationally on March 18 in US theatres with English Subtitles.

Original Story Below

The much-awaited Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Movie has released in Japan on December 24th; however, fans from other parts of the world wonder if the anime movie has an international release date.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is based on a manga series written and illustrated by Gege Akutami. The anime movie serves as a prequel to the first season of MAPPA’s Jujutsu Kaisen. The film takes the focus away from Yuji Itadori and tells the story of Yuta Okkotsu. Yuta loses his childhood friend Rika Orimoto, who later becomes a cursed spirit. Later, our beloved Satoru Gojo finds out about Yuta and takes him under his wing.

MAPPA announced the anime movie in March 2021, and after several teasers, the film has finally come out in Japan.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Movie Release Date Explained

Sadly, MAPPA didn’t officially confirm any worldwide release date for the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie. As of now, anime film is only available to watch in theatres in Japan.

Generally, Japanese animation studios premiere the anime movie internationally a few months after its release in Japan. For instance, Demon Slayer Mugen Train came out in Japan in October 2020 and premiered internationally in the first half of 2021. So, it’s safe to say that Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will follow a similar pattern. The studio will possibly start distributing the movie in other countries in the first quarter of 2022. However, it’s safe to say that fans will have to wait until the second half of 2022 to get the movie on streaming platforms.

Finally, Yuta Okkotsu will play a significant role in the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen. So, if MAPPA plans to release season 2 in late 2022, it makes sense for the studio to start releasing the movie in other countries beginning Q1 2022.
