The new cyberpunk-themed action RPG titled The Ascent came out recently and is gaining a lot of traction these days. And players who are looking forward to trying the game are wondering if it supports coop or crossplay.

Developed by Neon Giant and published by Curve Digital, this game has an interesting plot. It takes place in a future dystopian world called the Veles which is controlled by a powerful megacorporation called "The Ascent Group." However, the corporation collapses leading to chaos and a race for control. The player's role is to stop other factions from seizing control and solve the mystery behind the downfall of The Ascent Group.

The Ascent - Local and Coop Modes

The Ascent is a solo and coop action-shooter RPG. It supports both local and online coop mode for up to 4 players. But it does not offer Combo Co-Op (Local + Online) mode. So players can either stick to online or local mode if they want to play together.

The Ascent Crossplay Explained

Crossplay is supported by The Ascent but you won't get a true cross-platform experience. That's because the game is not available on other platforms like the PS5.

So the crossplay you get on The Ascent is limited to PC and Xbox. However, there is a catch.

The Ascent allows crossplay only between Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S players, and those playing on PC through the Xbox app. This means that Xbox owners cannot play The Ascent with someone who's running the Steam version on their PC.

This restriction is simply because of the fact Xbox app or Game Pass is altogether a different ecosystem than Steam. We hope that the developers would offer a solution for that as well in the future. But for now, we hope that your queries were solved.

The Ascent was released on 29 July 2021 and those who are looking forward to trying the game can do so on Windows, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
