As Genshin Impact confirmed Yae Miko releases in 2.5, new leaks have emerged with most notably screenshots of her Elemental Burst, and fans are wondering if it means Yae Miko has a fox form.

In Genshin Impact, several supernatural Inazuma characters are based on Japanese folklore. Arataki Itto is an Oni, and Yae Miko is a Kitsune.

What's a Kitsune and is Yae Miko a Kyubi?

Kitsune are a type of youkai (monsters, spirits, etc) in Japanese folklore that you regularly see in anime and games. Kitsune are very powerful, intelligent, and can shapeshift, though most of the ones depicted in anime are women with fox ears and tails.

The Kyubi/Kurama in Naruto is based on it, as well as the Ninetales in Pokemon. Another example is Tamamo from Fate/Extra and the Nasuverse. Long story short, the number of tails a Kitsune has represents its power, with the maximum being nine tails, a Kyubi 九尾 .

Yae Miko has been confirmed in Genshin Impact's past quests and lore released so far to be a Kitsune. And seeing her power and her position as familiar of Ei, it's likely she's the most powerful version, a Kyubi.

Does Yae Miko has a playable fox form in Genshin Impact?

According to the latest leaks, when Yae Miko uses her Elemental Burst, a shadow of her fox form appears, giving her tails. However, this most likely isn't her fully-transformed fox form, just a fragment of it. One screenshot seems to suggest Yae has five tails, but we'd need another screen from another angle to see the number of tails clearly.

Note that precise and full details on Yae's kit aren't out yet as the Beta Test for 2.5 didn't start yet. Yae Miko will be released in Genshin Impact 2.5. For now, only a single, new leaker said she'd be the first banner so take it with a grain of salt.
