Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was a surprise hit for the Nintendo Switch. Before its announcement, nobody expected a tactical RPG starring Mario and Rayman's Rabbids, and yet it did quite well. But today's, Nintendo Direct added to the surprise of the game with an unexpected addition: Donkey Kong.

A new DLC was announced during today's Nintendo Direct Mini that is bringing Donkey Kong into the mix. From what the trailer implies, he seems to have his own unique mechanics that take advantage of his size and strength.

Rabbids Peach is featured running from a large enemy and is cornered before Donkey Kong comes to the rescue, tossing her to safety while he distracts them. The content featuring Donkey Kong features an original story that takes place in a new world to focus on Donkey Kong.

The creation of Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was a possibly risky one, being such a strange crossover, but with its success, it's become a gamechanger for its developers at Ubisoft Milan, who have worked on many of Ubisoft's titles, but never as the lead developers. The previous update for the game added Versus Mode, which was available for free to everyone who owned the game.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is available now exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, and the upcoming Donkey Kong DLC launches in Spring 2018 as part of the game's Season Pass, or as a standalone purchase. For a closer look, you can check out the reveal trailer below:
