As promised, Bethesda and id Software revealed the first extensive footage of DOOM Eternal's new multiplayer mode called Battlemode today to kick off QuakeCon 2019, and it looks pretty darn cool.

Battlemode is replacing the multiplayer from 2016's DOOM and is instead a 2v1 offering that pits two players controlling demons against one who is utilizing the Doom Slayer. The demons operate more tactically and try to work in tandem in order to take down the Doom Slayer. Meanwhile, the Doom Slayer controls just as he would in the single-player portion of DOOM Eternal and comes equipped with all of the same gear.

As of now, id Software has revealed four playable demons in total that will be able to be utilized in Battlemode. More of these will be unveiled as the game gets closer to launch. Additionally, id confirmed that more demons will be arriving in-game post-launch and will be made available entirely for free to players.

On a personal note, I think what is being shown here with Battlemode looks much better than the last DOOM's multiplayer. While it might not be something that you'll pour hundreds of hours into, Battlemode at the very least seems unique and should be fun to play with friends. I'm excited to try it out upon release.

You can find the new Battlemode footage attached in the stream below. You might have to scrub through to find it, but the DOOM portion of the keynote kicks off about 15 minutes into the presentation.

DOOM Eternal is set to launch later this year on November 22 for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, and Stadia.
