As promised, the first trailer for DOOM Eternal's upcoming two-part DLC add-on premiered today during Gamescom's Opening Night Live stream, and yeah, it looks awesome.

The Ancient Gods is a new story add-on for this year's highly-popular shooter and it will take the Doom Slayer to a new realm to take on all kinds of new demons. While the trailer doesn't offer a lot in the way of story details (not that DOOM is narrative-heavy anyway) it does look like gameplay mechanics will be shaken up quite a bit.

The new video, which you can watch below, prominently seems to feature a new combat mechanics where certain enemies will leave behind ghost-like forms that the Doom Slayer then needs to dispatch of. I'm not really sure how it's going to work, but basically, it looks like the Doom Slayer has become an unofficial member of the Ghostbusters.

Best of all, at the trailer's end, it was confirmed that DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods isn't too far off of its release date. The first part of The Ancient Gods is set to release later this fall on October 20, 2020. You can snag both parts of The Ancient Gods by purchasing the game's Year One pass, which retails for $29.99.

Conversely, if you'd prefer to wait to check out The Ancient Gods later on, DOOM Eternal has been confirmed to be coming to both PS5 and Xbox Series X later this year.
