I bet you didn't wake up this morning expecting to get news on the fourth entry in the Dragon Age series.

During today's Gamescom Opening Night Live stream, BioWare showcased a new video detailing the studio's current project on the next Dragon Age game. The video itself features a number of developers who are currently working at BioWare discussing their direction on the forthcoming RPG. It's quite similar to the video that BioWare released years back when first working on Mass Effect Andromeda.

Sadly, if you were hoping for any actual gameplay footage from this new trailer, you'll be left wanting. While we do get a number of looks at some various pieces of concept art, character models, and even some in-engine game footage, none of it seems to be finalized gameplay whatsoever.

That being said, of what can be made out, BioWare seems to be going in a different direction with combat in this entry. Based on what was shown, the perspective seems to have been shifted to being more directly behind-the-back like a traditional third-person shooter would be. There are also some brief looks at various abilities shown off in this manner, too. Whether or not this will be what the actual game looks like though remains to be seen.

You can check out the full video in mention down below. Dragon Age 4 still doesn't have a formal release window of any sort, but Electronic Arts speculates that it won't release until 2022 at the earliest. If it does launch at that time, it'll surely be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
