The continuously evolving world of the Dragon Ball franchise refuses to shy from unveiling brand-new transformations, characters, and otherworldly features as the Manga and anime cross into a realm of power that has reached multiverse levels. One character who has recently received his very own form is fan-favorite Gohan. Gohan is the prodigy son of Goku and Chi-Chi and has been noted to have incredible power that has been left untapped within him until the Cell Saga.

Unfortunately, after the Cell Saga, Gohan turned to a life of business and family, rendering the character much weaker in consideration to other characters in the show. Now that Gohan has a newer form, the incredibly powerful half-Saiyan can arguably keep up with his father and his adversary — who have reached power levels that rival even that of gods in the franchise. As a character who was once supposed to take over the franchise, Gohan shows some incredible strength whenever he takes the spotlight over his Saiyan father.

5 Great-Ape Gohan

Like his Saiyan father from way back in Dragon Ball's very first series, Gohan was born with a physical characteristic resembling a monkey's tail. Little did the boy know that when he came in contact with a full moon, his Saiyan blood would force him to turn into a giant Great-Ape known as an Oozaru.

This form multiplies Gohan's power immensely and renders him uncontrollable. Even Piccolo couldn't fight Gohan in this form and ended up destroying the moon itself to make Gohan revert to his normal form as a child.

4 Super Saiyan

Dragon Ball Z: The History Of Trunks Gohan And Trunks

Sometime after his father became the very first Super Saiyan in Dragon Ball Z, Gohan finally reached the same level while preparing to fight Cell. He eventually achieved this transformation by training with his father in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber — he even surprised Goku by unleashing immense energy.

Gohan, in his Super Saiyan form, isn't too powerful. It is notably one of Gohan's weaker forms, as it showcases the half-Saiyan in his Super Saiyan form when he is incapable of tapping into greater strengths due to his lack of training after the Buu Saga.

3 Super Saiyan 2

Super Saiyan 2 Gohan

From one of the greatest moments in Dragon Ball history, fans were able to catch a glimpse of one of Gohan's strongest points in the franchise. During this time, Gohan was far stronger than his father and any other fighter on Earth at that point. During Gohan's fight with Cell, Gohan snapped and reached a transformation that out-powered Super Saiyan — this was his Super Saiyan 2 form.

This made Gohan incredibly powerful, so powerful that it was enough to defeat Cell easily, though it left Gohan overconfident, and that cost him his dad's life. Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 transformation is popularly regarded as Gohan's best moment in the franchise. It was an exciting time to see the son of Goku unleash his true potential — this form was even used once more in the Bojack Unbound movie.

2 Power Unleashed

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Adds Gamma 1 And Gohan Ultimate

After the Cell Saga, much time passed, and Gohan was now a young adult who attended high school. This was the Buu Saga, in which the Z fighters on Earth met an incredibly evil and powerful being that threatened the entire planet, if not the universe. Buu was so powerful that Goku couldn't defeat it in his new Super Saiyan 3 form. Not only that, but Buu continuously grew stronger as it shed forms in order to root out its innocence, leaving only an evil incarnation of Buu behind.

In order to fight Buu, Gohan trained to unleash the true potential that resided within him. Eventually, Gohan was able to reach a transformation that unlocked all the potential that sat within him. This transformation is known as Potential Unleashed and is stronger than Super Saiyan 3 — it even rivals Super Saiyan Blue.

1 Beast Gohan

Dragon Ball Super Super Hero came out in 2022 and gave two fan-favorite characters brand-new transformations that kept up with the quickly moving show. One of these characters was Gohan, who, at this point, was just a family man that had a normal job. Since Goku and Vegeta weren't on Earth, Piccolo and Gohan were the only ones left that were strong enough to face any threats that threatened the planet. The Red Ribbon Army eventually threatened Earth, and Gohan was forced to reach back into his untapped potential to gain the strength to fight the unveiled Cell Max.

While Piccolo struggled, Gohan snapped just like he had when he turned Super Saiyan 2 for the first time, achieving a brand-new form. This was Gohan's Beast form, which gave the hero longer white-colored hair. This form of Gohan is far stronger than any of his previous forms — some may even argue that it's even stronger than Goku's blue form. Whatever the case, many fans are happy that Gohan has finally been thrown into the spotlight with a new form that allows him to keep up with the advanced power levels in the franchise.
