Dragon Quest Builders 2 Shows Off Multiplayer in New Trailer

A new trailer for Dragon Quest Builders 2 shows that it's not only fun to build with friends—it's way more efficient too.

Square Enix has just released a new trailer for Dragon Quest Builders 2 that showcases some of the wonderful creations you can make with friends.

The notion of running around with friends, planning out your next grand creation, and coordinating what goes where to make that creation is absolutely joyous. What’s even more appealing, however, is the idea of getting all that work done in a quarter of the time it would take to do alone. Constructing giant slimes can be tedious work–I only hope whatever friends I play this with find a morsel of the synergy we see in the trailer.

The trailer also shows off some mechanics we’ve seen before. Character customization looks like it provides plenty of options, and while vehicles are absent here, traveling around still looks quick. What’s especially nice about character customization is the ability to change your original character for multiplayer–you can even swap genders.

Multiplayer unlocks once you progress through a certain point in the main story. Once that’s done, you can play with up to three others. Local play is an option on the Switch, but you’ll have to go online for the PS4.

Online play will feature some quality-of-life options we’ve come to expect from multiplayer games. Gestures will be an alternative for those who don’t want to get on mic and you can set blocks to be unbreakable if you want to show off what you’ve built without risk of some jerk destroying it all.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 releases in the West for PS4 and Nintendo Switch on July 12. You can try out a demo from the PlayStation Store in the meantime. If you’re interested in pre-ordering you can do so on Amazon.
