Dragon Quest XI Gets New Screenshots from PS4 and 3DS Versions; Shows Different Battle Modes
Dragon Quest XI reveals its battle models for PS4 and 3DS in new screenshots.
Today Square Enix added quite a few new screenshots and information to the official webpage of its upcoming JRPG Dragon Quest XI.
First of all, we learn about two new characters, the positive-minded martial artist Martina, and the mysterious merchant Rou.
Even more interestingly, we get to see the different battle modes available for the PS4 and 3DS versions.
The PS4 version will have a “free motion battle mode” that will let you move freely around the battlefield and even position for sneak attacks. The “automatic camera battle mode” lets you see the battle from a more cinematic perspective.
The 3DS version includes two modes as well. 3D Mode is more fetching visually, also showing the party. 2D Mode is similar to the Dragon Quest games of old, only showing the monster with a retro pixel art look.
The battle system is turn based in all modes, and on PS4 encounters will start once you come into contact with enemies. Attacking first will give you an advantage in battle, and you can even find enemies asleep.
On the 3DS Mode things change depending on 3D Mode and 2D mode. In 3D mode you start battles by coming into contact with enemies, and you’ll also be able to attack first. In 2D mode, there will be random encounters, again to play on nostalgia from the JRPG of old.
Dragon Quest XI will be released in Japan this year for PS4 and 3DS, while Square Enix is still keeping the Nintendo Switch version fully under wraps. The release date for PS4 and 3DS will be announced during a livestream on April 11th.
