Dragon Quest XI S is Coming to Xbox One and Game Pass in December

For the first time in the series' history, Dragon Quest will make its debut on Xbox with the release of Dragon Quest XI S on Xbox One.

While Xbox has traditionally been known for its franchises like Halo and Gears of War, over the generation Microsoft has made an earnest effort to branch out by offering games from a variety of different genres. Notably, Microsoft has expanded its efforts to feature Japanese games in its livestreams and presentations, including series such as Final Fantasy and Yakuza, and beloved titles like NieR: Automata. Alongside these series, another iconic JRPG franchise is coming to Xbox through Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition.

During the preshow for the Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft and Square Enix announced that Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition will be coming to Xbox One on December 4, 2020. In addition to its release, the game will also be available through Xbox Game Pass when it arrives in December for both Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.

Marking the first time that the Dragon Quest series has appeared on an Xbox platform, this iteration of the game includes all of the new features and enhancements that were added with its release on the Nintendo Switch last year, such as fully orchestral music and the ability to switch between the 2D and 3D versions of the game. However, presumably we’ll see some enhanced visual options for the game on Xbox One compared to the Nintendo Switch version, but it’s unclear just yet if the game will be supported on the Xbox Series X.

The trailer shown during the preshow highlighted gameplay footage from Dragon Quest XI S, adding to the excitement that this is the first time that Xbox owners will be able to get their hands on the acclaimed JRPG. Additionally, Square Enix also confirmed that the Definitive Edition of the game will also be coming to PS4 and PC alongside its Xbox release in December.

Dragon Quest XI is currently available on PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC, with the game coming to Xbox One later this year.
