Netflix Dragon’s Dogma Anime Adaptation Arriving in September
Along with a release date for the Dragon's Dogma anime, we got a first look at some art from the show
While 2020 has been a never-ending hellish rollercoaster of a year, it’s somehow also managing to be the year that videogames and T.V meet in a big way. The latest clash of the mediums revolves around Dragon’s Dogma, the 2012 RPG from Capcom. It was revealed back in March 2019 that the game would be receiving an anime-style adaptation on Netflix, but we now have a set date to inevitably binge the entire first season in one night.
Announced via a Tweet from the official Netflix Twitter account, the anime adaptation of Dragon’s Dogma will be available on September 17. The announcement also came with our first look at key art for the series as well as a description. An official page for the show has also been put up on Netflix, along with a description that gives us some scant details on characters and plot points. It reads: “Ethan sets out to vanquish the Dragon that took his heart, but with every demon he battles, the more he loses his humanity.”

More info on the upcoming series was posted on the official Dragon’s Dogma Twitter account as well, including three extra screenshots showing Ethan, the Arisen main character, and his pawn Hannah.
Of course, Netflix opting in for another anime based off of a successful video game shouldn’t be that surprising. The streaming service found enormous success in its Castlevania anime adaptation, which is currently heading into its fourth season. Time will only tell if the Dragon’s Dogma anime adaptation is as successful. Until then, we’ll just have to wait until September 17 to watch Ethan clamber up a giant demon and give it a proper thrashing.
