Not long ago we reported on how Red Thread Games acquired the rights of the old and glorious The Longest Journey adventure saga from Funcom and is working on a sequel named Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey.
While the newborn developer created from the team that worked on the previous games has the vision to create a great game, they still need the funds to bring the project to fruition. That’s why they turned to Kickstarter, asking for a fairly modest sum of $850,000.
These are the official bullet points that describe the game that (hopefully) will be:
- Experience a deep and complex storyline that continues the epic saga of The Longest Journey and concludes the Dreamer Cycle that began with Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
- Explore a beautiful, rich, detailed, interactive and living world that mixes a cyberpunk vision of the future with magical fantasy, along with a broken and decaying dreamworld
- Play as three different characters, all on journeys across worlds, through life, and into their own hearts and souls
- 3D point-and-click interface and engaging puzzle gameplay designed for fans of adventure games
The game is being developed together with Blink Studios and the team includes several of the original creators of the saga led by writer and director Ragnar Tørnquist (The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, The Secret World) and including art director Christer Sveen (Dreamfall, The Secret World) and writer Dag Scheve (Dreamfall, The Secret World). Lead designer Martin Bruusgard (Age of Conan, The Secret World) also joined Red Thread Games.
Ragnar Tørnquist himself commented on the project:
It’s an amazing feeling to have the team back together, and to be able to continue the story.
We’re hoping there are enough fans of the first two games out there, along with new gamers who want to play a real adventure game, to meet our Kickstarter goal. We’re relying on crowdfunding to produce the game, and the Kickstarter campaign is incredibly important to us.
At the moment of this writing $212,700 have already been pledged by 3,929 gamers on the official Kickstarter page in less than eight hours. You can join them with your own pledge, if you so wish, and check out the official introduction video below.
