E3 2010: New Donkey Kong Gameplay Goes Back to its Roots

What more is there to say with this one? It’s Donkey Kong going back to its roots. No more bongo play and no more racing. Donkey Kong Country Returns has been announced to arrive on Nintendo Wii.

Retro Studios has brought the lovable ape back into his 2D roots, the opposite of what they did with the Metroid series several years ago. The gameplay will be in 2D, but the characters and environments are all in 3D.

This seems like a growing trend to have 2D gameplay with 3D graphics, but I’m not complaining. I love Street Fighter IV.
