E3 2012: Microsoft Announces Xbox SmartGlass

on June 4, 2012 1:32 PM

Microsoft actually had something pretty innovative for us at their conference, Xbox SmartGlass. This app will use your existing phones and tables, even Apple ones, to enhance your movie and game experiences. Want to browse the web? You can use Kinect for voice commands, and your smartphone like a mouse with Internet Explorer 8. Switching movies and TV shows between your devices will also be as simple as a push of a button.

Feel like playing Halo 4? When you come across a new location ingame information and maps will pop up about it on your tablet, and if you get multiplayer invites while already killing things, they’ll go there too for you to review. If you’re playing the next Madden Football game, your tablet will allow you to make choices on your next play while in the huddle.

They even brought Game of Thrones in on the action through a partnership with HBO Go. While you’re watching the newest episode of Game of Thrones your tablet will follow along with an interactive map and all the information about the characters and locations onscreen, just not when George R. R. Martin will kill them off, sadly.
