As I'd predicted, Microsoft has confirmed a new Killer Instinct title to be released exclusively for the Xbox One. Development is being handled by Rare Studio and a 2013 release of the game was hinted at. Microsoft also took the opportunity to announce an Xbox One Mad Catz Tournament Edition Fightstick. Fighting fans thinking of picking up the Xbox One will make a note of the new peripheral, since no Xbox 360 peripheral will work with the Xbox One.

Rumors have been swirling about a new Killer Instinct game for years now, so this announcement is not completely unforeseen. The last new KI game released was Killer Instinct Gold, which was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1996. Microsoft's conference included a brief trailer for the new Killer Instinct game, and we'll have that for you as soon as it's available.

Updated: The trailer has been added and it includes a brief bit of game-play. It also confirms the returning fighters Jago, Glacius and Sabrewulf. See it below.
