Pragmata – The story so far

Capcom first announced Pragmata at the PS5 “Future of Gaming” showcase on June 11, 2020. Back then, a mysterious cinematic trailer was shared, and before the Capcom logo showed up, many actually expected some kind of spin-off or sequel to Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding.

Pragmata is often nicknamed by fans “Capcom’s Death Stranding” as the game’s reveal trailer was particularly mysterious, and truth to be told, hard to make sense of.

The trailer featured a character wearing a technologically advanced spacesuit that definitely felt like a creation of Yoji Shinkawa, the character designer and mecha designer of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding. The character can be seen exploring a space colony, and ending up encountering a mysterious girl.

While Capcom already stated Pragmata is an action-adventure game, no actual gameplay was shared yet.

Following its reveal trailer, Pragmata was announced for a 2022 release on PC via Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X. However, the Covid-19 pandemic greatly affected Capcom’s plans.

A few months later in January 2021, Sony announced new release dates for several upcoming PS5 games, including Pragmata, which was delayed from 2022 to 2023. As of now, Capcom has yet to reveal anything else about the game, besides stating that it’s hard at work at creating the title, which uses ray-tracing and features an immersive sci-fi setting.

Will Capcom showcase Pragmata at E3 2021?

Right after its announcement on June 11 2020, Capcom promised more details on Pragmata would be coming in 2021. We’re already in June 2021, and we have yet to hear anything.

E3 2021 would be the perfect occasion for Pragmata to make a comeback. Moreover, E3 2021 will mark the first anniversary since Pragmata was first announced.

Capcom’s leaks and Pragmata

When it comes to rumors and leaks, it’s also interesting to note that there are in fact, no trustworthy information concerning Pragmata. Capcom has managed to keep the lid tightly shut on the game, despite the various hardships the company went through.

In case you’ve forgotten, in November 2020, Capcom was the victim of a massive cyberattack and ransomware attack, resulting in the leak of thousands of confidential documents and data, including the personal information of Capcom’s staff. Making the whole situation dangerous for Capcom business-wise, but also for its employees.

The leaks included information on nearly every Capcom IP and franchise: Ace Attorney, Dragon’s Dogma, Mega Man, Power Stone, Final Fight, Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, or Street Fighter. And yet, nothing was leaked on Pragmata.

Right now, Pragmata is still a mystery, but one that might soon be solved with E3 2021. Are you hyped for Capcom’s new IP and do you believe it’ll show up at E3 2021? You can let me know your thoughts on Twitter @A_iyane07.
