Since the initial reveal of The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 back in 2019, we haven't heard much about the game. But as E3 2021 approaches, Zelda fans across world are hoping to finally hear something about it in Nintendo's big June Direct.

So far, Nintendo has kept everything firmly under wraps and has not given us any information related to Breath of the Wild 2. And that makes sense too, after all, the expectations are extremely high for a sequel to the legendary Breath of the Wild, which is still hailed as one of the best games ever.

Breath Of The Wild 2 - The Story So Far

Earlier this year, at a Nintendo Direct Legend of Zelda’s 35th anniversary, Nintendo explicitly stated that it had no news about Breath of the Wild 2. But this gave rise to speculations that maybe Nintendo is saving the details to reveal at E3 2021.

With E3 2021 around the corner, and the alleged reveal of a Nintendo Switch Pro incoming this week on June 4, fans might finally get to see some new footage of Breath of the Wild 2 at the upcoming gaming conference.

BOTW 2 Trailer in 2019

We got our first glimpse of Breath of the Wild 2 at E3 2019 in a spooky trailer where Zelda and Link explore an underground chamber – with mysterious runes and glowing hands.

The 82 seconds long trailer had no dialogue whatsoever but the clip had a a message in the end: "The sequel to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is in development."

Information from Nintendo Direct in February 2021

While Nintendo’s Direct presentation from February didn’t reveal any details on Breath of the Wild 2 but it wasn’t completely absent.

Eiji Aonuma, the producer of Zelda series, shared that the development is “proceeding smoothly” and that there’s going to be more information on the game later this year (which could be E3 2021).

"For now, we’ll have to ask you to wait just a bit longer," added Aonuma.

Will The Breath Of The Wild 2 Be At E3 2021?

We don't have any official information confirming the presence of Breath Of The Wild 2 at E3 2021. However, the rumors and other speculations point towards a potential reveal of the game during Nintendo Direct.

Rumors

One of the rumors that has gained a lot of traction, comes from the well known industry veteran, Jeff Grubb. During a Twitch stream, he claimed that he was "51% sure that Breath of the Wild 2 will be at Nintendo’s E3 2021 Direct."

Grubb also stated that if BOTW 2 doesn't make an appearance at E3, then it should surface in the following weeks.

Interestingly, this piece of information aligns with Nintendo’s own announcement that it made during February Direct, confirming that we would see more of Breath of the Wild 2 "later this year."

While Grubb is regarded as one of the industry's most reliable insiders, any leak should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Release Of Nintendo Switch Pro And Breath Of The Wild 2 Could Be Connected

Assuming that Nintendo Switch Pro is displayed before E3 2021, Nintendo could show Breath of the Wild 2 gameplay leveraging the upcoming device's reported 4K capabilities. This will definitely get fans hyped for the release of the game as well as the console.

With that, Nintendo can recreate what happened back in 2017. When Breath of the Wild came out, it was the first major game to be released for the Nintendo Switch. It not only proved to be a great showcase for the new console's capabilities, but also helped in driving console sales.

Rumored Release Date For Breath Of The Wild 2

According to a new report, BOTW 2 could release in 2022. This latest information comes from the Japanese game industry analyst, Dr. Serkan Toto, who teased the release date for game.

It is important to note that all of the above are merely speculations and that it could be wrong, so I would suggest taking all of this information with a big pinch of salt.

Nevertheless, E3 looks like the most logical place for Nintendo to give players another glimpse at the sequel of Breath of the Wild. And we are hoping for the same!
