Do you enjoy Plants vs Zombies? How about Bejeweled ? Well, you can still enjoy these games, but now under the banner of EA, who is currently in the late stage acquisition phase of acquiring highly successful mobile developer Popcap. While this is a hefty price tag for EA to expand their presence on mobile devices, it is far from the first time that EA has used their fat stacks of cash to acquire a mobile games company. Back in 2009, EA paid a reported $400 million to acquire Popcap rival Playfish, responsbile for such social games as My Empire and Pet Society.

It'll be interesting how EA handles Popcap, and to see what extent they attempt to brand themselves in the ever-expanding social games market. But for now, only time will tell.
