Today, EA updated the official Star Wars Battlefront blog with some new details on the Battle of Jakku DLC that will tie the game to the upcoming film “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. This mission will be available to players who pre-order the game on December 1 and can be downloaded for free by all other players a week later on December 8.
The Battle of Jakku depicts a pivotal moment after the battle of Endor in “Return of the Jedi” where the New Republic confronts Imperial officers. We can see from the concept art that a massive star destroyer is crashed on the desert planet and soldiers will be fighting around it. It has also been confirmed that there will be combat taking place on the ground and in the sky.
DICE concept artist Anton Grandert offered some quotes revealing a few more details on the special DLC:
“There’s a David and Goliath theme to this,” says Grandert. “The epic, huge super structures of the Star Destroyers contrast against the tiny but brave Rebel soldiers fighting the Imperial forces.”
“We wanted to portray a battle completely surrounding you, in every direction. Debris is falling from the sky, telling the story of battles above. On the surface of the planet you can see ground troops as well as X-wings, all taking part of the fight,” Grandert says.
Star Wars Battlefront launches November 17 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
