EA Play is Still Slated to Take Place Next Month in an All-Digital Format
EA Play is still being held in its normal window this year, with the digital event set to take place on June 11.
With many of the year’s biggest gaming events such as E3 and EVO being canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the status of Electronic Arts’ annual EA Play event also seemed to be unlikely to occur. As of today, we now know that EA Play will still be held next month in June, but as expected, it will take the form of a fully digital event for 2020.
Electronic Arts made the announcement official today for EA Play over on Twitter where it unveiled that the event will take place on Thursday, June 11 at 7:00pm EST/4:00pm PST. The showing is said to contain “world premieres, news and more” but other than that, not much else is known about what the publisher might have up its sleeve.

So, what are we likely to hear about at EA Play this year? Well, annualized franchises like FIFA, Madden, and NHL are almost certain to make an appearance. Ongoing games such as Apex Legends and Anthem are also likely to pop up in some manner, too. As for what else EA has in the pipeline for the remainder of 2020, it’s hard to say right now.
While we do know of quite a few titles that are in development at various studios that EA owns right now (Dragon Age 4, Battlefield 6) those games aren’t releasing in 2020, meaning that it doesn’t seem as though we’ll hear about them. Typically, EA only likes to focus on games that are releasing in their current fiscal year at EA Play, but right now, other than annualized sports games, it’s hard to know what else the publisher is releasing through the remainder of 2020 and into early 2021.
That said, multiple Star Wars projects are said to be in the works right now at EA. Additionally, a leaked game entitled Star Wars: Project Maverick leaked a few months back and we have yet to know what that game actually is. Perhaps we’ll finally hear more about all of these games during EA Play next month.
Either way, we’ll be here to keep you posted on all things related to Electronic Arts next month once EA Play transpires. Stay tuned over the coming weeks as more information on the event will likely be coming about over that period of time.
