Over on the PlayStation Blog, EA Canada has introduced several screenshots featuring the upcoming EA Sports UFC, showcasing Jon Jones, Alexander "The Mauler" Gustafsson and more MMA fighters with a degree of detail unseen before in the UFC series.

As seen above and below, this level of graphical power shows off incredibly detailed character models with PS4's hardware, with visual realism that shows off exact body dimensions, tattoos and skin tone. Most important is the game's body deformation technology, which shows off more realism when physical contact is made. When a fighter is struct, his flesh ripples convincingly; when competitors grapply, their muscles flex and clench against each other.

Gameplay-wise, each face button on the PS4 will control a limb (comparable to the Tekken series), with more than 200 different striking animations between pressing a face button and doing a direction. Block is assigned to R2, and pairing a face button with R2 will allow a fighter to parry a punch or kick, opening up for an opportunity to counter. Location-based damage also makes for realistic fighting tactics, where taking too much damage will change the way you or your opponent's technique.

The team--which is comprised of some of the Fight Night series' veterans--has come a long way. We'll be able to see how advanced the game is when EA Sports UFC releases for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and May 5th.
