The Earth Defense Force series has seen a resurgence in the west over the past year. Kicked off by the western launch of Earth Defense Force 5, Sandlot and D3 Publisher followed that up in April with the worldwide release of Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain, a self-proclaimed westernized entry of the series. Still, many fans enjoy the mainline series formula, and those players will be pleased to hear that this year is becoming one to remember for EDF fans in the west as Earth Defense Force 5 hit PC today.

Earth Defense Force 5 is similar to previous Earth Defense Force games when it comes to how it released in the west. Like most of the titles in the series, it came out first in Japan in December 2017; then, as I previously mentioned, it hit PS4 in December 2018. While DualShockers had mixed feelings about the game, D3 Publisher highlighted that because many players like both this newer game and previous Earth Defense Force PC ports, like that of Earth Defense Force 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair, they decided to port the Earth Defense Force 5 over.

For those worried about surprising store exclusivity deals, Sandlot and D3 Publisher stated that the PC release of Earth Defense Force 5 is currently just on Steam; in fact, its Steam page has been live for most of this week.
