The new generation of gaming has ushered in numerous advancements in the way we play and view games, as well as how seriously the structure and content of a game's story is manufactured. Thief, the fourth installment in the franchise of the same, is slated to be released this year, and its developers assure that the story will be inspired by a wealth of sources. However, they are remaining tight-lipped as to where specifically they are drawing their inspiration from.

"There's been some inspiration in a lot of different media, literature as well for sure," Eidos Montreal Producer Joseph Khoury told OXM UK. He also noted that the story in this particular game would not be borrowing anything story-wise from previous Thief titles. "It's very rewarding for the player to come back and say 'was this your inspiration' and for us to say 'you got it', rather than us saying 'our inspiration was this, this, this and that'," Mr. Khoury explained in regards to not specifying the sources of their inspiration, "I think even when the game comes out, you won't hear any of us saying... for sure we can talk about high level inspirations, but in terms of the lower notes I think it's such a big reward to hear it directly from the fans who have played the game."

Thief is being developed by Eidos Montreal and will be published by Square Enix for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on February 25th, 27th, and 28th, 2014 in North America, Australia, and Europe, respectively.
