One Piece Netflix Live Action - Comments from Eiichiro Oda

Eiichiro Oda: "The One Piece Hollywood live action project with Netflix and Tomorrow Studios is shaping up nicely. Sometimes I still doubt this is really happening. It's not easy to team up with various people from different cultures like this. But that's also what makes it possible to create something unique. For now, we were finally able to announce the main cast. Apparently it if we didn't announce it now it would have gotten leaked soon anyways (laughs)".

This is definitely an issue more and more Japanese productions have been dealing with. Being forced to announce things before they end up leaked. There is also the magazines leaks problem.

Eiichiro Oda continued, revealing the various criteria used to pick the actresses and actors: "It took quite a long time to decide the cast, after many meetings with staff from all around the world. We took into consideration the actors' faces, mouth size, hands size, acting skills, voice acting sills, height, their sense of camaraderie, etc. I'm sure they will become great Strawhat Pirates."

Lastly, Eiichiro Oda mentioned he'll do his best to make the live action a success :"It'll still take a little bit of time until the series is complete, but I'll do my best so all One Piece fans around the world can enjoy it. Look forward to future announcements!"

Personally speaking I can't say I'm particularly hyped for the One Piece Netflix live action, similarly with the Cowboy Bebop one. I am not the target audience. Hopefully the series will satisfy those waiting for it though.

In any case, Netflix Festival Japan is still ongoing. You can watch it on " target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">YouTube.
