Nothing screams fantasy like someone swinging around a gigantic weapon twice the size of their body. Although Elden Ring features a number of surprisingly realistic armaments, the game also gives players access to many oversized swords, axes, and hammers known collectively as colossal weapons.

Unsurprisingly, colossal weapons deal a ton of damage, but they are also difficult to wield effectively, often requiring a significant investment in Strength. Pouring a truckload of runes into a single stat is often risky since not every enemy in Elden Ring can be beaten using just raw power. However, when fighting enemies that are susceptible to Strength scaling weapons, these bad boys are invaluable.

Did somebody order a pizza? The glorified pizza slicer known as Ghiza’s Wheel is certainly one of the unique colossal weapons in Elden Ring. The Spinning Wheel skill feels a bit gimmicky at first, but it has plenty of creative uses, particularly against groups of enemies. As long as you have FP to spare, you can keep the wheel spinning for a very long time. Perhaps more importantly, Spinning Wheel can be used while moving.

Ghiza’s Wheel is one of the few colossal weapons in the game that causes blood loss buildup. However, the bleed potential is a lot higher when using normal attacks than spinning ones, which is pretty odd, to say the least. Another issue with Spinning Wheel is that its damage isn’t boosted by talismans like Winged Sword Insignia. Having said that, the weapon inflicts a significant amount of damage with or without Spinning Wheel and should not be underestimated.

In spite of what its name might suggest, this is more of a gigantic ornate mace than a typical staff. However, the Watchdog’s Staff does allow players to perform magic thanks to its unique skill known as Sorcery of the Crozier. The sorcery comes in the form of a ring of homing projectiles that deal heavy damage and can be boosted by talismans like the Warrior Jar Shard or the Shard of Alexander. Base projectile damage scales with weapon level rather than stats, meaning you can boost the spell without investing in Intelligence.

If you remove Sorcery of the Crozier from the equation, the Watchdog’s Staff becomes a glorified blunt weapon, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But even though you can do a ton of damage with this colossal weapon, you can’t infuse it with Ashes of War to make it more interesting. The staff’s unique skill is the main reason why the weapon is on this list and that should give you an idea of just how good it is.

The Golem’s Halberd is surprisingly good for a weapon you can acquire early on. Most colossal weapons only appear in the mid-to-late game so the fact that you can get your hands on this one without even leaving the first area is certainly very impressive. Unlike some of the other weapons on this list, the Golem’s Halberd doesn’t have a unique skill and the generic skill it comes equipped with is pretty weak. Luckily, the weapon can be infused with Ashes of War.

In addition to having good stats, the Golem’s Halberd is also one of the longest colossal weapons in Elden Ring, allowing you to keep charging enemies at bay with relative ease. The weapon’s shape can be a bit misleading since it uses a sweeping move set that doesn’t incorporate the spike at the top. The Golem’s Halberd can do piercing damage when paired with Charge Forth or similar skills, but otherwise it will inflict standard physical damage.

The Royal Greatsword is a good colossal weapon for jack-of-all-trades builds that prefer to dump runes into a bunch of stats instead of putting all their eggs into one basket. The fact that this weapon has a fairly high Intelligence requirement may seem a bit strange, but it all makes sense once you unleash its unique skill, Wolf’s Assault. The skill allows players to plunge the weapon into the ground and cause an explosion that deals frost damage in an area around the initial point of impact.

While the Royal Greatsword’s physical damage is lower compared to other colossal weapons, it more than makes up for it by also dealing magical damage with its unique skill. The downside is that the magical damage scales with Intelligence. You’ll need to invest heavily in both Strength and Intelligence in order to get the most out of the Royal Greatsword. Apart from that, though, this is a very solid weapon provided you manage to time Wolf’s Assault properly.

Presumably intended as an homage to George R.R. Martin and Game of Thrones, the Grafted Blade Greatsword is arguably one of the most hideous things ever designed by FromSoftware, which is really saying something. Luckily, this colossal weapon performs much better than it looks. The Grafted Blade Greatsword hits like a truck and its unique skill, Oath of Vengeance, can come in handy in many situations.

Oath of Vengeance increases all attributes by 5 points for 60 seconds while also increasing Poise for 5 seconds. The skill is somewhat similar to Godrick’s Greater Rune and comes with an additional effect that prevents players from being staggered by blood loss or frostbite status effects. Like all weapons with unique skills, the Grafted Blade Greatsword can’t be infused with Ashes of War or enchanted with magic.

This is another colossal weapon that can only loosely be defined as a sword since it’s basically just a big slab of stone. A 'sword-like object' would be a more appropriate term. Fittingly enough, the Ruins Greatsword has an absolutely insane Strength requirement; easily the highest out of any weapon on this list. It’s quite remarkable that the weapon has comparatively low physical damage, although it does make up for it with its magical proprieties.

The Ruins Greatsword has a surprisingly powerful unique skill that unleashes a wave of destruction in front of the player. In addition, the colossal weapon’s charged heavy attacks create a burst of energy that staggers and damages nearby enemies. While the unique skill eats up a lot of FP, the charged heavy attacks only consume Stamina. It’s important to note that the weapon art doesn’t trigger for players who don’t meet the weapon’s ludicrous Strength requirement even if they happen to meet the Intelligence requirement.

It’s hard to imagine how a weapon like this would even function considering it doesn’t actually have an edge, but that’s neither here nor there. What’s important is that the Godslayer’s Greatsword is a remarkable colossal weapon with good scaling and the ability to make short work of enemies vulnerable to fire damage. Considering there are quite a few of those throughout Elden Ring, including several bosses, the Godslayer’s Greatsword is a weapon that shouldn’t be overlooked.

The Godslayer’s Greatsword is pretty unique among its kin since it scales primarily with Faith and Dexterity rather than Strength. Furthermore, it’s lighter and faster than other colossal weapons while also having respectable range to boot. The fact that it can deal significant fire damage thanks to its unique skill is just the cherry on top. On the flip side, the weapon has the lowest physical damage out of any weapon on this list.

The Starscourge Greatsword is a two-for-one deal since equipping the weapon automatically gives you a pair of them that can be dual-wielded. Players can use just the main-hand sword and equip a shield or a different weapon in the off-hand, however, doing so would defeat the entire purpose. The weapon’s unique skill, Starcaller’s Cry, only works when dual-wielding. The animation plays out either way, but the effect doesn’t trigger when using just one of the swords.

Starcaller’s Cry is a two-phase skill similar to Wolf’s Assault, but arguably better. The weapon art unleashes a gravitation wave that pulls in nearby enemies and has a chance to stagger them. Players can then use the skill again to slam the weapons into the ground and generate an explosion that will send weaker enemies flying. The first phase of the attack counts as a roar and thus benefits from talismans like the Roar Medallion. Strangely enough, using heavy attacks won’t swing both swords, so it’s better to stick to light attacks with this one.

Despite its unassuming name, the humble Greatsword is easily one of the best colossal weapons in Elden Ring. This giant sword doesn’t come with a unique skill, and it arguably doesn’t need one. Its stats alone are enough to place it near the top of this list and the fact that it’s the longest weapon in its class also helps it stand out. When infused with the right Ashes of War, the Greatsword becomes an absolute beast.

In addition to being great on the offense, the Greatsword also boasts some impressive defensive stats, allowing players to essentially use it as a shield in a pinch. Combine that with the relatively low Strength requirement, and the fact that it can be acquired fairly early on, and it’s easy to see why the Greatsword is such a popular weapon among colossal swords enthusiasts.

This weapon became a bit of a meme after essentially making the game too easy. While it’s no longer as broken as it used to be, it’s still an extremely powerful colossal weapon. The Fallingstar Beast Jaw has a unique skill that summons a bolt of gravitational lightning capable of damaging and staggering enemies. Unlike projectile-based magic, this bolt doesn’t have any issues finding its target. Furthermore, Gravity Bolts have low FP cost and can be fired in quick succession.

In addition to doing a fair amount of magical and physical damage, Gravity Bolt also deals a lot of poise damage, albeit not as much as it used to. The poise damage was reduced in Patch 1.08, but you can still stagger plenty of enemies with Falling Beast Jaw provided you have enough Strength. Gravity Bolt primarily inflicts physical damage and is therefore less suitable for Intelligence-based builds. Just like the Starscourge Greatsword, the Fallingstar Beastjaw does bonus damage to Gravity-type enemies.
